DBS' Speedloader® wins at the 2018 Queensland Mining Awards
The Speedloader®, designed by Downer Blasting Services (DBS), has been awarded the winner of the 2018 Economx Time Saving Initiative Award at the Queensland Mining Awards.
The 2018 Queensland Mining Awards recognise the state’s hardest-working contractors, suppliers and producers, culminated in a gala presentation dinner, attended by the industry’s leaders. Co-hosted by the Bowen Basin Mining Club and the Queensland Resources Council the awards included eight peer-judged categories recognising initiative and innovation in the mining industry.
An independent judging panel of seven mining industry leaders selected the Speedloader® as the Winner of the Economx Time Saving Initiative Award. Focusing on reducing downtime of mobile processing units (MPUs), DBS eliminated the need to return to the reload facility by delivering product on the blast bench. A blasting cycle with the Speedloader® is now 15 minutes, compared to 75 minutes. MPU productivity is increased by up to 23% with reduced wear and tear on the fleet as they travel less to complete a cycle.
Judge Michael Jones, Production Manager at Jellinbah Resources, said: "The benefit of the Speedloader® is that it can be applied across many open cut sites and it’s a genuine time saver.” Fellow judge Dan Kadziela, Head of Business Development Minerals Australia for BHP, said: “Downer Blasting Services have found an obvious solution to a real problem.”
